We did it. We made it to Canada!!!!!
We got picked up at the terminus and got dropped back off at @lookingglassbasecamp in East Glacier. A bed in our little cabin for the night felt so good!! Thank you Luna and Will!! ❤️ We took a day of rest and got to hang with our friend, Towlie, before he headed into Glacier.
We hitched from East Glacier to Kalispell (Over an hour hitch! Thank you Ryan and Natalie!!), to pick up our rental car. We couldn’t help but smile when we saw the car had Wisconsin license plates. 😊
You’d think we’d be heading back to Wisconsin, but our journey isn’t over quite yet! We decided to go back down to New Mexico to finish the 250 miles we had to skip earlier in the hike. As a reminder, just 8 days after we began our hike on 5/5/2022, US Forest Service shut down 250 miles on the CDT in N. NM due to wild fires. We had decided to not road walk, skip these miles and jump ahead to Colorado, and had hoped we could come back when we reached Canada to connect our footpaths. And so we are!
We are beyond thrilled we reached Canada, but we have some business to take care of in New Mexico before we officially can say we hiked the whole trail. Are we crazy or are we crazy!?!
We are currently driving down south, going 70 mph (omg!!!!) compared to our 2-3 mph the last 5 months. We can’t wait to see what N. NM has to offer!!
